| CREW POSITIONS |
Crusader Live members have the opportunity to experience a wide variety of production roles. Not every event will be staffed with all roles and certain roles require a certain amount of previous experience. Below you can learn about some of the roles that Crusader Live members may experience.
PRODUCTION STAFF
Production Staff consists of student-filled positions requiring commitment to the entire production rehearsal schedule. Positions are determined according to the needs of each production and assigned by Theatre Staff. Interviews are required and certain positions require prior experience.
Stage Manager: Works closely with the production Director and the SFS Theatre Staff. Attends ALL rehearsals for the duration of the production. Records all actor blocking, set changes, technical cues, distributes rehearsal reports, and calls cues during performances.
Assistant Stage Manager I: Works closely with the production Director and SFS Theatre Staff, as well as shadowing the Stage Manager. Attends ALL rehearsals for the duration of the production. Assists the Stage Manager in taking blocking/line notes during rehearsals. Assists the SFS Theatre Staff in planning and coordinating scene changes. Is responsible for directing stage crew on stage right during performances.
Assistant Stage Manager II (Props Master): Works closely with the production Director and SFS Theatre Staff. Attends ALL rehearsals for the duration of the production. Populates and maintains the props list for the production. Leads student crew in acquisition and creation of rehearsal and production props. Is responsible for laying out props tables and managing props on stage left during performances.
PRODUCTION RUN CREW
Production Run Crew consists of student-filled positions requiring commitment to the last four (4) weeks of the production rehearsal schedule. Positions are determined according to the needs of each production and assigned by Theatre Staff. Interviews are not required though some positions may require prior experience (*).
*L1 - Lighting Programmer / Operator: Sets up and tears down lighting equipment, programs light cues, and operates the lighting console during rehearsals and performances.
L2 - Electrician / Spotlight Operator: Sets up and tears down lighting equipment as needed for the production. Operates and maintains the spotlights during performances.
*A1 - Sound Programmer / Operator: Obtains sound effects, programs QLab software, operates the sound console (microphones and/or sound effects) during rehearsals and performances.
A2 - Sound Assistant / Microphone Technician: Sets up and tears down audio equipment as needed for the production. Helps Sound Programmer / Operator to obtain sound effects, prepare microphones according to the production mic plot, and keep the mic plot up-to-date. Fits microphones to actors, makes microphone changes, and troubleshoots audio issues from stage wings during rehearsals and performances.
Stage Crew: Performs scene changes during performances as assigned. Helps maintain cleanliness and safety of the stage. Helps with other production tasks as necessary.
House Manager: Coordinates and trains ushers, manages audience issues, and helps run the box office.
EVENT CREW
Event Crew consists of student-technicians trained as generalists, providing pre-production support as needed on a weekly basis as well as assigned production support. Event Crew members self-select a minimum of 2 pre-production shifts each week according to their personal schedule and SFS Theatre Staff assign production support dates and positions as needed. Interviews are required for new applicants, and some positions for events may require prior experience (*).
*V1 - Video Director / Switcher Operator: Sets up cameras, prepares video switcher & recorders, and either directs or operates the video switcher during rehearsals and performances. Communicates with camera operators what shots to look for and provide feedback on framing, exposure, focus, etc.
V2 - Video Assistant / Camera Operator: Helps set up cameras and other video equipment. Operates cameras during rehearsals and performances according to the direction of the Video Director / Switcher Operator. May also manage broadcast feeds and virtual audience feedback during performances.
*A1 - Broadcast Sound Operator: Operates the broadcast sound console during performances to mix the audio feed being sent to event broadcasts.
A2 - Broadcast Sound Assistant: Helps the Broadcast Sound Operator to operate the sound console during performances and shadows the Broadcast Sound Operator to learn his/her responsibilities.
Ushers: Scans tickets and hands out programs at all performances. Assist House Manager with any audience issues.
Set & Props Crew: Helps in the scene shop with the construction and finishing of stage sets and set props. Works closely with the SFS Theatre Staff and Assistant Manager II (Props Master) to ensure that all production sets and props are completed according to the production schedule.
